New Years Gift! (Part 2 ZIP Fixed)

2009 proved to be another great year for music ("The Best Of 09'" edition of ODL is on it's way!) not only for new music but for rediscovering older music. When ever I feel as if I've heard it all, I come to find out that I've only just scratched the surface. This music goes deeper then I could have ever imagined, and that is what inspires me to keep digging and evolving musically. Even more important then the music itself is the friendships and experiences that are a direct result of it, I'm so grateful for this gift and that is why I enjoying sharing it as much as possible.

As a gift to you I've put together some of my favorite boogie/funk/disco/edits/soul tracks from the past year, some classic, some rare, some weird, all amazing. Enjoy!

ODL New Years Gift - Part 1 (Click to Download!)

Arcade Gang (Feat. Rich Cason) - When Doves Cry Syndrome (Part 3) 1984

A fun little cover version of the Prince classic with a early 80's electro boogie twist, even some vocoder at the 2:00 mark. Shout outs to James Pants for this one.

Aurra - Such a Feeling (Part 2 and 3) 1982

An absolutely stunning boogie dub right here, taken from Dimitri From Paris's "Night Dubbin" compilation on BBE.

Boney M - Ma Bakes ('Ma Baker' Re-Edit) 1977

Sometimes I forget how awesome Boney M was, as soon as that guitar comes in at 0:48 I understand again.

Change - A Lover's Holiday 1980

The first single by one of the finest boogie/modern-soul groups ever, the first two albums are essential.

Con Funk Shun - Too Tight 1980

This is some feel good funk music right here, always gets a smile. Sneak it in after Earth, Wind and Fire's "September".

Dee Dee Sharp - Nobody Could Ever Take Your Place (Funkhunt Re-Cut) 1977

The Philly sound at it's best imo, beautiful.

Elvis Presley - Crawfish (Pilooski Edit) 2008

One of the most amazing edits I've heard, perfectly executed and gets better as the track progresses, by the 4:40 mark you completely forget that this is Elvis Fucking Presley! Pilooski is a master of the edit no doubt.

Greyship Daviz - This Groove Is On The Loose 1983

This track starts of with some seriously heavy open drums and a synth bass drop that almost sounds like an 808 bass drum (heeeaaavy) then proceeds to smash your head with insane synth leads and a deep Funkadelic style groove. Shout outs to Trevor Risk for putting me up on this one.

James Brown - Can't Take It With You 1976

Christmas aka James Brown Day! Kind of a lesser known JB track that goes hard. If I ever DJ a B-Boy battle I will drop this without hesitation.

Jimmy Bo Horne - Is It In 1980

My recent obsession has been anything Harry Wayne Casey & Richard Finch produced for other artists between (1975-80).

ODL New Years Gift - Part 2 (Click to Download!)

Mai Tai - History 1985

My soft spot for 80's pop will die hard, shout outs to Niña Mendoza.

Mouzon's Electric Band - Everybody Get Down 1979

First heard this on James Murphy and Pat Mahoney's stellar FabricLive mix, what a gem.

Nightlife Unlimited - Peaches & Prunes (Ron Hardy Re-Edit) 1980

A hypnotic disco edit by one of the originators of House music Ron Hardy. Is it just me or did music sound better when he played it? It's magic...

Prince - Private Joy 1981

Not sure how this eluded my Prince tribute, back in 07' "The Purple Mix" , amazing song.

Scott Davis - NY Applejack 1979

Some raw ass New York funk, feel it.

Sharon Redd - Can You Handle It 1980

Her first single, followed by the classic's "Beat The Street" and "Never Give You Up" shortly after.

Sho' Nuff - Don't Use Me Up 1982

One of my favorite discoveries of 09', it melted my face the first time I heard it. Boogie-Funk banger!

Tata Vega - Get It Up For Love 1979

A brilliant cover version of Ned Doheny's original song, can't decide which one I like better.

The Sylvers - What's It All About 1974

One for the heads.

Vernon Burch - Do It To Me (AJ's Funky Edit) 1981

Another Talkbox burner. Shouts out to B.Cause's new Roger Troutman (master of the Talkbox) tribute mix

Willie Hutch - In and Out 1982

This is possibly the only WH song that hasn't been sampled by Three 6 Mafia.

This is amazing. Part 1 was great, Part 2 gives errors when trying to expand and only 3 files show up. I downloaded twice just to be sure. Please look into repacking and reposting?

Would hardly call the Crawfish joint an edit, since he added instruments and effects. Not bad though.
